"Smokey"
My pet 'smoky' had been lethargic for weeks.  I took her to our local vet in Marlboro, who IS very good, but he was unable to identify the cause or problem after a number of extensive tests. Finally he suggested we take Smoky to a referral hospital (Garden State Vets Hospital)when we called to tell him Smoky wasn't getting up to eat and also relieved himself in his bed. Smoky was seen after about a 20 minute wait by an intern (which I originally was not happy with but he turned out to be very knowledgeable) and then an emergency specialist DR Palmer, who is truly amazing. They told me that Smoky would need to be amditted for some tests...which I also was not happy with, but, after they calmly sat down with me and identified to me why they felt each test was needed and also the possibilities of what Smoky was suffering from, I agreed. After three days of assorted tests and treatment, they had correctly diagnosed the problem and Smoky was on his way to recovery. Within a week or so, Smoky was his same old frolicky self again.
During those 3 days I was allowed to visit Smoky, and was treated with compassion by the entire staff. I feel they recognized my bond with him and understood I just needed to spend some time, but also, they explained that it was good for him to spend time with someone he recognized and loved as well. All told, I may not have been too happy with my bill amount, but as far as compassion and treatment, I have no complaints. How could I, as I don't know if Smoky would still be with me without them! My mother always said that in life you get way you pay for, if not always, in the case of Garden State Veterinary Specialists this turned out to be true for me. God Bless them!
